Campaign photography
statement of intent
I am going to base my campaign photography on the topic Domestic violence, most of the photos will be taken around school some may be taken outside of school. In this topic I feel using rule of thirds will be a real help and using it will increase the quality of my photos. To take these photos I will be using a DLSR camera. I may start the topic off with some statistics as it will help me understand my topic better. I will need a few models for my shoots to work. My main topic is going to be Domestic Violence but I will also try to work with Homophobia as I feel that it is another big issue in society as it isn't ever dealt with properly. As Domestic Violence is my first topic I will add some facts to give people an insight into what I am researching and why I feel it is such an important to talk about. For my first shoot I need a long corridor and i will have someone sat at the end of it.
What is it?
Campaign photography is used for advertising so it can be something like raising money for a charity or raising money for a hospital or you can argue against something like bullying or racism.
The campaign I am going to choose is domestic violence, which is violent or aggressive behaviour within the home.

Domestic violence is a big thing within a lot of countries and it needs to stop.
To begin there is no cause of domestic violence it only happens due to the abusers desire for power and control. It can happen to anyone and if you ever experience it then you must act quickly so it doesn't happen again.
1 in 4 women are abused during their lifetime
1 in 9 are severely abused each year
2 are killed each week
Did you know?
The police receive a call about domestic violence every minute but only 35% of domestic violence incidents are reported to the police.
Not only women suffer from domestic violence Men also experience it
40% Out of all the domestic violence, happens to men
Men who suffer from domestic violence are usually ignored by the police
2 in 5 people who suffer from it are men
There is no shame in experiencing it if you are a man

In this photo there is a man who has faced domestic violence. It is a campaign to show domestic violence can happen to anyone. I think they have taken the photo in the bedroom because it is a place where everyone goes to hide or relax it is like a safe zone. No one will go in without your permission. To take this photo they must have put the lighting on the man in a bedroom setting take the photo then go on Photoshop blur out the background and add the words in. I like this photo because it shows you don't have to hide it and your gender doesn't matter. In my photo I would make the bedroom a bit more visible to show the location and I would probably make the cuts a bit more visible. They also used perfect exposure in this photo to make the man look clear. In this photo they have used a medium depth of field because most of the photo is visible.
Children
Domestic violence is not only experienced by adults but children in the house also are affected by it.
20% of the children in the UK have been exposed to domestic violence.
In 90% of domestic violence incidents children have either been in the same room or the next room.
When domestic violence happens in a house hold 62% of the time children are directly harmed.

In this photo there is a child a who can't handle the noise of her parents so she is crying in another room. They have used a black background to make the child and the shadows of the parents stand out. The child crying is a big part of this photo if she wasn't crying this photo could have been completely different. To take this photo they either used Photoshop to add the shadow or made someone behind the screen then they took the photo of the girl with the screen. The background of the photo is all in black and white which makes it easier to focus on the little girl crying. The line at the top of the door makes you focus on the girl as well. Also with the door being white it makes it really easy to make out the actions of the little girl plus the light from the door shines on her eyes.
This photo has been taken for campaign zero which is a campaign to end police violence in America.I like this photo because it is to do with ending police violence in America which is a good thing.I think the photographer took this photo to show that lots of people are against police violence in America. It looks like that he is surrendering because he has had enough. In this photo I think the exposure is perfect because at the front of the picture the exposure is perfect but at the back of the photo it is over exposed, we can see this because at the front everything is visible where as at the back of the photo it is really bright and you cant see anything. I don't see any pattern. The depth of field in the photo is shallow because the only thing visible is the man in front which is a good thing because your eyes are attracted to it. This photo looks like it was taken on a street where everyone was gathering to protest. I like the man surrendering because it means and says a lot. In the photo it doesn't look like the rule of thirds has been used but the man is directly in the middle which is a good effect because your eyes are drawn to him. In the photo there looks like there is a main colour which seems to be blue, which is a cool and relaxing colour, but there are a few spots where there is yellow which stands out. The photographer should of tried to change the colour using Photoshop.
PHOTO SHOOT 1
In my first photo shoot I have someone who hasn't got anyone and is sat alone
best photo
I like this photo because you can clearly tell that he is sad because he is sitting at the end of the hallway alone.Plus everything is in focus so the photo is better.
Worst photo
In this photo the table covers up most of the model so you don't really see what is happening that is why I have picked it as the worst.

homophobia

My next campaign is about homophobia
Homophobia is more common than most people think
1/3 people have experienced some kind of homophobic attack
LGB people are the targets of hatred and violence because of who they like
Homophobia can be shown in several different ways

In this photo they have used a sport which is football to stand up for gay people they have done this by using rainbow coloured shoelaces which most people associate with gay.To take this photo they used some grass as the background to where they put the shoes. The fact that they have used football shoes is clever because A LOT of people watch football and it may inspire them to change their mind on gay people because I know if I saw someone who inspired me I would pretty much copy them so this is a clever way to influence some people.
USING PHOTOSHOP
Because in the above photo I found the background a bit too distracting I decided to crop it and see if it made it look better. It looks better but I don't think it is good enough so I am going to try this photo again with a different background. For my next photo I am going to try it with different filters and effects.

evaluation
So far in the campaign photography topic I have looked at homophobia and Domestic violence. Throughout this I have learnt about both equally important, before this I didn't know much about domestic violence but now I know that it is violent or aggressive behaviour within the home.In homophobia I have learnt that people can express their feelings in many different ways such as football. In homophobia I used Photoshop and added the black and white effect which I think is good and makes the photo look better. My favorite photo is the final piece for domestic violence (edited) because I find that it makes you think and it kind of makes you relax; the quote is really hard hitting. It send the vibes to be good. For the domestic violence project I find that the final photo was a good way to end the project and it shows that the project is finished. But then again I feel like another shoot wouldn't have done any harm It doesn't really feel like i have shown progress. For the homophobia project I have done a few photo shoots and I really like them all but personally I feel as if my last photo is not my very best. If I could change one thing, I would spend more time experimenting with my photos. So far, I don't think I have encountered any problems. To achieve the next grade, I need to take that one hard hitting photo and show my steps to edit a photo. To make the homophobia topic successful I need to talk about my best and worst photos.
